How Much Do You Pay for Your Child's Care?
Not everyone can afford the same amount for quality care. But you are entitled to it. Our daycare centers and childminders are recognized and licensed by Kind en Gezin (Agency for Growing Up). In our daycare, we work on an income-based system.
How much you pay per day for your child's care depends on your income. This way, we can keep childcare accessible and affordable.
What is the Income-Based Rate?
Our daycare centers and childminders are subsidized by Kind en Gezin (Agency for Growing Up), which allows us to offer you the income-based rate. This is a rate where the daily price is calculated based on your income. The calculation is based on the (joint) taxable income of the parent(s) and the family composition.

Does the income-based rate apply to everyone?
The income-based rate applies to most of our daycare centers and all our childminders. Only the Sasette daycare in Schoten exceptionally works with a fixed monthly price.
How do I apply for the income-based rate?
You need to apply for an income-based rate with Kind en Gezin (Agency for Growing Up). They determine the daily rate. Without this application, you will pay the maximum daily rate.
You can apply for an income-based rate on the Kind en Gezin (Agency for Growing Up) website.
Once the application with Kind en Gezin (Agency for Growing Up) is in order, provide the details to your childcare provider. Please make sure to do this before the first day of childcare. Otherwise, we will not be able to apply the rate.
If you use the income-based rate, you will receive a tax certificate for it every year. This includes all the days your child was in childcare.
Are there any other costs?
In addition to the daily rate for your child's childcare, there are also costs for, among other things:
- Diapers, care products, and waste disposal.
- An administrative fee.
- A fee for late pick-up or depletion of respite days.
After applying for a daycare, you will receive the house rules with the associated rates. Only after that will the application be converted into an official registration.
Is there also financial support?
Yes, in addition to the benefits specifically for Helan customers, there are also support measures from the government. The most well-known are the start amount and the growth package.
Since 2019, the growth package is the new name for child benefits or maternity allowance in Flanders and consists of the start amount and a monthly amount from the birth of your child. The government aims to support every parent in raising and caring for their child(ren).
- You can apply for the start amount yourself. Do this at least 4 months before the estimated due date with one of the five recognized payers of the growth package, such as MyFamily. The other four recognized payers can be found here.
- Have you already applied for a start amount? Then you will automatically receive the growth package. No further application is needed. However, if you move to Flanders from another Belgian region or abroad, you will need to apply for the growth package yourself.
