Looking for expert support as a new mum? Count on a doula or maternity care, from 1 month before the birth until 3 months afterwards.
Helan advantage: up to €300 reimbursed for both parents
Each affiliated parent is entitled to a reimbursement of €5 per hour, with a maximum of €150 per year. If both parents are affiliated, you can receive up to €300 in total.
Provide Helan with the invoice.
Please send us the original invoice from the maternity carer:
- Digitally: via the Helan app or through My Helan. A sticker is not required – we identify your document through your login.
- By post to Helan Independent Health Insurance, Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk, with a white sticker attached, or drop it in a Helan letterbox near you.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
- You are up to date with your health insurance contribution.
- This advantage applies to each parent affiliated with Helan Health Insurance.
- The maternity care must be provided by a home care organisation or a qualified doula.
- The reimbursement cannot exceed the actual cost.
- This advantage only applies when the care is provided in Belgium.
Hospitalisation insurance: €20 per day
For maternity care during the first seven days after hospital discharge, the Hospitalisation insurance Hospitalia Care and Hospitalia Plus provide a reimbursement of €20 per day.

- You are a customer of Hospitalia Medium or Hospitalia Plus.
- Maximum of 7 days.

In the case of twins, you will receive this advantage twice.
How much you pay depends on your income and the number of dependants. This is calculated according to the contribution scale set by the Department of Care. Are you expecting multiples? Then the calculation is done differently. Would you like a no-obligation estimate? Feel free to get in touch.
To support you as well as possible, Helan Health Insurance reimburses €5 per hour for maternity care. A maximum of €150 per year applies, or 30 hours of maternity care per affiliated parent, per child. If both you and your partner are affiliated with Helan Health Insurance, you are therefore entitled to 60 hours of maternity care. Expecting multiples? Then you can receive up to 120 hours of care. You can also get a contribution for maternity care through your hospitalization insurance.
As a single parent, you can receive a reimbursement of up to €300 for maternity care.
Other family types have also been eligible for the maternity care advantage since 1/1/2024.
For the Helan advantage, you are entitled to 30 hours per affiliated parent, or a maximum of 60 hours if both parents are affiliated. You will receive a reimbursement of up to €5 per hour.
You can rely on maternity care from one month before your due date until three months after the birth.
Are you expecting multiples (three babies or more)? Then you can make use of maternity care for a longer period.
