What is the VAPH?
The Flemish Agency for Persons with Disabilities (VAPH) provides allowances for aids and adaptations for people with a long-term disability. Our Social Work department is recognised as a multidisciplinary team and will help you put your file together, so you can benefit from the best possible financial support.
How can we help you?
Our multidisciplinary team includes social workers and occupational therapists, supported by a doctor and psychologist. Together, they help you get your file started and manage any specific applications smoothly:
- support in getting your file started and personal advice on the VAPH offer
- drafting and submitting the required supporting reports electronically
- advice from our occupational therapists on aids and home adaptations
- help with applications for minors
Apply for your allowance
If you are applying for aids or adaptations, it is very important to submit your application first and only purchase the aid or adaptation afterwards.
To start the procedure, please contact us. Our multidisciplinary team (MDT) is officially recognised to support people with disabilities in their application and will be happy to guide you through every step.
Our multidisciplinary team gathers the necessary information and documents. If you are eligible for an allowance, we will visit you at home and prepare your file together.
Helan will submit your application to the VAPH. Of course, we’ll keep you informed about the progress of your file.
Good to know
Does your partner, a family member or a neighbour help you with your administration? Or are you in need of care and does an informal carer manage everything for you? Ask your informal carer to register as your contact person. That way, we can move forward quickly with any questions about your file.
A few conditions
To apply for support from the VAPH, you need to meet a number of conditions. You can find all the details on the VAPH website. Below, we’ve highlighted the general requirements:
- You are under 65 at the time of your first application.
- You have a long-term disability.
- You live in Flanders or the Brussels-Capital Region.
For which aids does the VAPH provide support?
As a person with a disability, certain activities may be more difficult. The right aids and adaptations can make everyday tasks much easier. For example, a height-adjustable bath seat helps you get in and out of the bath safely, while a screen magnifier makes reading text more comfortable. Other examples include a vibrating alarm clock or an adapted car.
On www.hulpmiddeleninfo.be, the VAPH offers guidance to help you choose the right aids.
At Helan Healthcare Shop, you’ll find a wide range of aids. Please note: always submit your application before purchasing the item.
Via the e-portal mijnvaph.be, you can view your personal VAPH file.
