Social and tax allowances

Finding your way through the maze of social allowances can feel overwhelming. No need to worry. Our Social Work department will look at which allowances you’re entitled to and, if needed, support you with your application.

Allowances via the Federal Public Service Social Security

The income replacement allowance is intended to partially compensate the income that you cannot earn due to your disability. Contact the social work department for more information or read the details on the government website.

The integration allowance is a benefit intended to compensate for the additional costs you incur as a person with a disability in order to participate in social life. Contact the social work department for more information or visit the government website.

Under certain conditions, you may be entitled to a parking card. You can easily apply for the card online via the website of Handicap Belgium or contact us for assistance with the application.

The social rate is a favorable rate for electricity and gas. You may be entitled to it if you receive certain allowances or benefits. You can check if you are eligible on the website of the Flemish Government.

A person with a disability can be accompanied free of charge by a person of their choice with a 'Free Companion Card.' The card can be used for travel between two Belgian stations or stops and is also valid on the regional transport networks of MIVB, TEC, and De Lijn.

If you have high care needs, you may be eligible for a care budget. This is a monthly allowance of 130 euros for non-medical costs, such as support services or compensation for your caregiver.

Persons with a disability who are in need of care and are over 66 years old may be eligible for a care budget for elderly people with care needs. The monthly premium is determined based on their care needs and income.

If you have an recognized disability and a determined support need, you may be eligible for the care budget for people with a disability. This monthly allowance of 300 euros can be used to pay for services such as home assistance, guidance, or daycare.

If you need help with mobility due to a chronic illness, old age, or a disability, you can apply for a permanent mobility aid through the Flemish Social Protection (VSB). The invoice will be sent directly to the care fund.

With a prescription from your treating physician, you can request the funding for mobility aids through your recognized orthopaedic technician (a provider of mobility aids).

If you do not live in Flanders and wish to obtain a mobility aid, you can apply for support through your orthopaedic technician at Iriscare (Brussels-Capital Region) and AVIQ (Walloon Region).

Patients receiving palliative care at home may receive a palliative care allowance to help cover the cost of medicines, care materials and medical aids. Medical approval is required.

The statutory health insurance (cover for medical care) provides an allowance for people with a chronic illness who meet certain conditions. If you meet these conditions, the health insurance fund will automatically grant the allowance. Contact our services for more information.

In addition to child benefit and the Flemish child benefit scheme (Groeipakket), some families are entitled to increased child benefit. Contact the organisation that pays your child benefit, such as MyFamily, for more information.
