Small-scale, welcoming and just like home.
Our childminders provide professional childcare with a personal touch. Your little one has all the space they need to play and explore at their own pace. All in a calm setting, with limited stimuli. Most of our childminders care for babies and children up to the age of 3. Including children who need extra care or attention.
Do you love working with children and are you looking for a job you can combine with family life? At Helan, we’re always looking for new childminders.
Our approach
Respect for everyone
Your child always comes first in everything we do, and you and our childminders will work closely together. To make that happen, we place great value on openness, honesty and clear communication. As a parent, you know your child best; the childminder is the childcare expert. Together, you complement each other and act as partners in your child’s upbringing.
A safe and homely setting
Our childminders provide childcare in a homely setting and welcome your child with open arms every day. In those early years, the childminder becomes an important person in your child’s life, offering them a warm and safe place where they can truly feel at home.

Supporting your child’s development
Our childminders provide freshly prepared meals and encourage and guide your child in their personal development. Your child is given every opportunity and the space to grow at their own pace, with individual attention every step of the way.
Good to know
Your child is in safe hands with your childminder. All our childminders are registered and licensed by Kind en Gezin (Opgroeien Agency). They also receive intensive coaching, training and support from Helan Childcare.
Practical questions and answers
Happy children, satisfied parents and enthusiastic childminders. That’s what we aim for. To achieve this, transparency and communication are key.
Even when your child isn’t with you for a while, we'll always keep you up to date. We’re happy to make time for a conversation. Because we’re here to listen to you.
A personal catch-up every day
Of course you want to know how your child’s day has been. With a daily personal handover when you collect your child, you’ll stay fully up to date.
Communication diary
Sleeping, eating, playing, … we record everything that matters in our communication diary. We'll send you it by email. You can also share useful or practical information with us straight away and stay informed about your child’s activities throughout the day.
Open communication
Got a question, a comment, feedback or something you’d like to discuss? Our childminders and the coordinator of the childminding service are always happy to make time for you.
When you enrol your child in our childcare, we draw up a childcare contract. This is a binding agreement for a minimum of three days of care per week. Your childcare contract includes a care plan with the set days and hours when care for your child is guaranteed.
You can adjust your care plan once a year, in consultation with the Helan childcare team leader.
Not everyone can afford to pay the same amount toward high-quality childcare. But everyone is entitled to it. That’s why the Flemish Government provides a means-tested childcare system. All Helan day nurseries and childminders are licensed by Kind & Gezin (Growing Up Agency). This allows us to offer you a means-tested rate. The daily fee you pay for your child’s childcare depends on your income. That way, we keep our childcare accessible and affordable. For everyone.
How can I calculate my means-tested rate?
To calculate your means-tested rate, we need an income rate certificate (child code). You can request this via the website of the Growing Up Agency. If you’re unable to apply for this yourself, you can always contact us.
Please note: as a parent, you are responsible for requesting any adjustment to your rate following a change in income and/or family situation.
If your child is unable to attend childcare, please let your childminder know as soon as possible, so they can start the day with peace of mind. If you notify us too late, you will be charged for any absence.
Cancel childcare free of charge
Your care plan includes a set number of days for which you do not have to pay the daily fee if your child does not attend the childminder. These are known as ‘absence days’. Depending on when you joined during the year, you are entitled to:
- 24 absence days for a full-time care plan.
- A proportional number of absence days for a part-time care plan.
Once all absence days have been used, the daily fee will be charged if your child is absent.
