Being self-employed
Find out what you’re entitled to as a self-employed professional through your health insurance fund, how to arrange benefits in case of illness or pregnancy, which insurance options we offer, and how Helan can make life easier for you as an entrepreneur.
Starting as a self-employed professional
Are you about to take a new step in your career and become self-employed? Or have you just graduated and are you starting your own business? Then you are required to join a health insurance fund. First register with a social insurance fund and then get in touch with us. We’ll be happy to arrange your health insurance file with Helan. If your employment status changes during your career, be sure to inform us of the update as well.
Managing your administration as a self-employed professional can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re just starting out. Our partner Pia Go! offers personal support to help you get started.
Helan Health Insurance for you
If you’re self-employed, just like employees, you’re required to be registered with a health insurance fund. With Helan Health Insurance, you can count on reimbursements for your medical costs, or benefit payments if you’re temporarily unable to work due to pregnancy, illness or an accident. You receive more than the standard support provided by the government. You can also rely on extra advantages and services that make everyday life easier. We ensure fast payments and personal support whenever you need it.
Well insured
The statutory health insurance doesn’t reimburse all medical costs. Hospital bills in particular can add up quickly. With Hospitalisation insurance, you don’t need to worry about that. Helan Health Insurance offers three different Hospitalia policies, depending on your needs and preferences. Dental costs, such as braces and implants, can also be high. With Dentalia Up, the Dental insurance via Helan, you can get up to 4,000 euros back per year. If you’re self-employed, you may also be able to take out additional insurance through your business. We’ll be happy to advise you.
Incapacity for work
If you’re unable to carry out your self-employed activity for a period of time due to illness or an accident, you may be entitled to sickness benefits. You can apply for these through Helan Health Insurance.
Tip: Has your doctor allowed you to gradually return to work for a set number of hours per week during your period of illness? This is possible under the system of ’part-time employment’. Make sure to submit your request in good time.
A baby on the way
Are you expecting a baby? If you’re self-employed, you’re also entitled to a range of advantages and reimbursements. For example, you may be entitled to maternity benefits via Helan Health Insurance. We take care of the application and the payment. As a self-employed partner, you may also want to spend time with your little one. Apply for your birth leave through the social insurance fund you’re affiliated with – they handle both the application and the payment. Did you know Helan also offers maternity care? That way, you can recover in peace and get used to life with your new baby. And then there are the Helan baby advantages, giving you a little financial boost.
Good to know: The social insurance fund you’re affiliated with provides 105 free service vouchers after the birth of your baby. Get in touch with them to check whether you’re eligible.
