We understand that not every parent wants or is able to breastfeed. That is completely okay. Every parent makes the choice that best suits their situation, and we respect that.
Still, we consciously choose to encourage breastfeeding. Not to exclude others, but because research shows that breastfeeding offers benefits for both baby and parent. The World Health Organization (WHO) also recommends it.
Helan is committed to health and prevention. With the breastfeeding allowance, we want to give parents a helping hand when they choose to give breastfeeding a chance. You therefore receive the premium from the very first day of breastfeeding.
The allowance can be requested by all mothers who have given birth from January 1, 2026, starting from the first day of breastfeeding. Mothers of multiples receive the allowance per child.

Download the form and have it completed by your midwife, doctor, nurse, or a staff member of the Agency for Growing Up (formerly Kind & Gezin). Or request a certificate.
Please send the completed reimbursement form to Helan.
- Digitally: via the My Helan App or My Helan Web.
- By post to Helan Independent Health Insurance Fund, Boomsesteenweg 5 in 2610 Wilrijk. Or drop it in a Helan mailbox in your area. Don’t forget your white adhesive stamp.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
- This benefit only applies from January 1, 2026.
- You are in order with your health insurance contributions.
- Your delivery took place on or after January 1, 2026.
- At the time of delivery, you were already affiliated with Helan Health Insurance.
- You receive a one-time allowance per child.
- If you have a multiple birth and breastfeed, you will receive the allowance multiple times.
