Having trouble with language, speech or swallowing? In addition to the statutory reimbursement under the medical agreement, Helan Health Insurance provides a reimbursement of up to €1,500 for speech therapy sessions. This applies to both children and adults.

Statutory reimbursement for speech and language therapy
The statutory health insurance provides a partial reimbursement for speech therapy, provided that you have received medical approval from Helan for this.
The amount you will be reimbursed depends on the treatment.
Your doctor will provide you with a prescription for testing by a speech and language therapist
A test request with the speech therapist can only be made through a prescription from a specialist (e.g., pediatrician) or general practitioner. Note: a dentist or orthodontist is not allowed to issue a prescription for this.
The speech therapist will make a report
After the test, the speech therapist prepares a report. A report is a speech therapy assessment.
Your doctor writes a prescription for the treatment
The speech therapist's report is submitted to the specialist. They will provide you with a new prescription, this time for speech therapy treatment.
You apply for medical approval from Helan's medical adviser
Submit the necessary documents to Helan within 60 days after the start of the treatment:
- the report or speech therapy assessment
- the prescription for the treatment
- the RIZIV application document from the speech therapist
Helan's medical adviser reviews your application
The advising doctor at Helan reviews whether you meet the requirements to receive medical approval. You can always check the current status of your application via My Helan.
You receive a written response
- If you meet all medical and administrative requirements, the advising doctor will give a positive recommendation and you will receive a reimbursement from the statutory health insurance.
- A negative recommendation means you are not entitled to a reimbursement through the statutory health insurance. In this case, Helan Health Insurance will provide you with a reimbursement of 10 euros per individual session, with a maximum of 150 sessions.
You can start your sessions with the speech therapist
You will receive a certificate from the speech therapist. You need to submit it to Helan by mail or drop it in a Helan mailbox.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
You need medical approval from Helan before you can start the treatment.

Helan Health Insurance provides a reimbursement of 10 euros per individual session every 5 calendar years, with a maximum of 150 sessions.

- By mail to Helan Independent Health Insurance, Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk, with an adhesive stamp. Or drop it in a Helan mailbox in your area.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
- You are up to date with your health insurance contribution.
- You may not be entitled to a reimbursement through the statutory health insurance.
- There is no age limit.
- Also applicable for teleconsultations.
