Oral care program
Anyone who is 19 or older and regularly visits a dentist receives higher reimbursement for dental care through the oral care program.
What is the oral care program?
The oral care program aims to encourage more people to visit the dentist and further improve the oral health of the Belgian population. After all, 4 out of 10 Belgians do not visit their dentist annually. Such an annual check-up is important for oral health and therefore also for overall health.
If you are at least 19 years old and received a reimbursement for dental care through the statutory health insurance last year, you will receive higher reimbursement for your dental care this year.
For many dental treatments, the statutory health insurance does not intervene or only partially. The Dentalia Up dental insurance reimburses up to 5,000 euros per person per year.
How do you join the oral care program?
Anyone who is 19 or older is automatically enrolled in the oral care program.
Your health insurance fund records the date of the reimbursement for the dental visit from the previous year and then provides a higher reimbursement for most dental care in the following year.
Your reimbursement is calculated automatically. Fast and easy.

Practical questions and answers
The oral care program does not apply to:
- dental consultations
- preventive care
- orthodontics
- periodontology
- dental radiographs or procedures billed as an additional fee, for individuals who are entitled to the increased reimbursement.
If you did not visit the dentist in the previous year and therefore did not request any reimbursement for a dental visit, this has consequences:
- The co-payment is doubled for fillings, root canal treatments, extractions, emergency supplements, and procedures on prostheses (repair, adding a tooth, or replacing the base).
- The co-payment is approximately one and a half times higher for radiographs and services billed as an additional fee.
- The co-payment is 40.50 euros higher for removable prostheses and oral implants.
If you are entitled to the increased reimbursement, the co-payment increases by a maximum of 2 euros.
