Taking a training course while you are incapacitated for work?

Can you no longer practice your current profession due to your illness or injury? Thinking about doing an internship or training during your incapacity? Discover the options available. 

How do you apply for training?

Would you like to take a professional training course? Simply submit an application to your health insurance fund at least one working day before the start of your course. Use the “Application for partial return to an activity” form to do so. On the form, select “other activity”.

Complete your application digitally on My Helan or download the document, fill it in and send it by post.

  1. Send us your application digitally via My Helan. Send us your application for part-time activity digitally. This is the quickest and simplest option.
  2. Download the application form and submit it to us by post. Download the part-time activity application form. Send your completed application as soon as possible to Helan Onafhankelijk Ziekenfonds, Incapacity for Work Service (Dienst arbeidsongeschiktheid), Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk.

Make sure that the following details are completed:

  • Type of training
  • Start date of your course
  • Schedule

The medical officer of the health insurance fund will review your application. If necessary, the medical officer may invite you for a medical assessment to decide whether you can take the course. He or she will let you know what the decision is.

Return-to-work pathway

What is a return-to-work pathway?

A return-to-work pathway is a voluntary process in which Helan guides your re-entry into the workforce. Support is provided by a return-to-work coordinator. The coach will guide you in a number of areas. This could include adjusting your work, taking a training course or looking for other work.
