Eye patches
A lazy eye in children can be easily treated with eye patches. And we’ll reimburse you for them.
Statutory reimbursement
The statutory health insurance provides reimbursement for eye patches (occluders). These may include eye patches with a shell and suction cup, or eye patches with micropores.
Take your prescription to a registered optician.
Do this within 6 months after the prescription was issued.
Either the optician will apply the third-party payment scheme.
The optician arranges the reimbursement with Helan via the third-party payment scheme. You only pay the remaining cost.
Or the optician will issue you with a certificate of supply.
Provide Helan with the doctor's prescription and the certificate of supply from your optician. Send both documents by mail to Helan Independent Health Insurance, Boomsesteenweg 5 in 2610 Wilrijk, with an adhesive stamp. Or drop them off in a Helan mailbox in your area.
We will transfer the reimbursement to your account.
Renewal period.
- Eye patches with a shell and suction cup are reimbursed only once.
- Eye patches with micropores (per box) are reimbursed up to four times until the 18th birthday. Submit the box separately after the previous one has been used up.
- You must be younger than 18 years old.
- The eye patch must be prescribed by an ophthalmologist.
- The eye patch must be supplied by a certified optician.
- No reimbursement is provided for eye patches supplied by a pharmacist.
- A reimbursement is only possible if the prescription was not older than 6 months at the time the eye patches were supplied.
Up to €50 reimbursed
Under the optical benefit, Helan Health Insurance provides an annual reimbursement of up to 50 euros for children and young people up to 18 years old for the purchase of eyeglass lenses, frames, eye patches, or contact lenses. You can choose what to apply for with this benefit.

Download the form for optical reimbursement and have it filled out by the optician or the pharmacist.
Send the completed form to Helan.
- Digitally: via the My Helan app (mobile) or through My Helan (desktop). Don't forget your adhesive stamp.
- By post to Helan Independent Health Insurance, Boomsesteenweg 5 in 2610 Wilrijk, with a white adhesive stamp. Or drop it off in a Helan mailbox in your area.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
- You are up to date with your health insurance contribution.
- You choose what to apply for with this benefit: for the purchase of eyeglass lenses, frames, eye patches, or contact lenses.
- The eye patches can be purchased in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.
- The reimbursement is limited to the amount paid.
- You are not eligible for statutory reimbursement.
