Need contact lenses? Don’t worry about the cost. You’ll get a reimbursement and a discount at the optician’s.
Statutory reimbursement for contact lenses
The amount of the reimbursement for contact lenses varies depending on the type of lenses (hard or soft).
Take your prescription to the optician.
Do this within 6 months after the delivery of the prescription.
The optician will give you a certificate of supply.
The certificate of delivery (Appendix 15) lists the nomenclature of the delivered lenses.
Send the certificate of supply and the prescription to Helan.
- Send the delivery certificate from the optician and the prescription from the eye doctor by mail to Helan Independent Health Insurance, Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk, with a postage stamp.
- Or drop it in a Helan mailbox in your area.
- The Consulting Doctor will check if the request meets all legally determined criteria. If so, we will deposit the amount into your bank account.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
Renewal period.
A new reimbursement is possible after 1 year for soft lenses, and after 3 years for hard lenses.
The renewal period can be shortened if the new lens differs by at least 1 diopter from the previously reimbursed lenses.
- Your diopter is greater than or equal to +6 or less than or equal to -6.
- Your eye doctor diagnoses one of the following conditions and mentions it on the medical prescription.
- Note: Were the lenses delivered before 1/5/2024? Then you are entitled to a reimbursement starting from a diopter of greater than or equal to -/+7.75.
- A reimbursement is only possible if the prescription was not older than 6 months at the time of lens delivery.
Up to 15% off at approved opticians
Helan Health Insurance works with many opticians. With them, you get 15% off the purchase of contact lenses, excluding certain exceptional lenses. Always check with your optician about this.

Show your adhesive stamp to the optician.
Give your optician an adhesive stamp as proof of your membership with Helan Health Insurance.
The discount will be applied immediately by the optician.
- This discount cannot be combined with temporary promotions or discounts promoted by the optician.
- The discount does not apply to lenses without a prescription.
- Some opticians have specific conditions, such as no discount for contact lenses. Always check the conditions before making a purchase.
Up to €50 reimbursed up to the age of 18
If you are not entitled to a statutory reimbursement for your eyeglass lenses or frame, Helan Health Insurance offers an annual reimbursement for children and young people up to 18 years old from the optical benefit, with a maximum of 50 euros for the purchase of eyeglass lenses, frames, eye patches, or contact lenses. You can choose what you apply this benefit for.

- You are up to date with your health insurance contribution.
- You choose what you apply this benefit for: the purchase of eyeglass lenses, frames, eye patches, or contact lenses.
- This benefit does not apply to lenses without a prescription.
- The reimbursement is limited to the amount paid.
- Only if there is no reimbursement through statutory health insurance.
- The reimbursement also applies to (online) purchases of contact lenses in the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.
Up to €30 refunded from the age of 19
If you are not entitled to a statutory reimbursement for your eyeglass lenses or frame, Helan Health Insurance offers an annual reimbursement for adults from the optical benefit, with a maximum of 30 euros for the purchase of eyeglass lenses, frames, eye patches, or contact lenses. You can choose what you apply this benefit for.
