Statutory reimbursement eyeglass lenses
The amount of the statutory reimbursement for eyeglass lenses depends on the diopter, the type of lenses, and the age.
Take the prescription to the optician.
Do this within 6 months after the prescription has been issued.
The optician will give you a certificate of delivery.
The nomenclature of the delivered lenses is stated on the certificate of delivery (annex 15).
Send the certificate of delivery and the prescription to Helan.
Send the optician’s delivery certificate and the ophthalmologist’s prescription by post to Helan Independent Health Insurance Fund, Boomsesteenweg 5 in 2610 Wilrijk, including a white adhesive stamp. Or drop it in a Helan mailbox in your area.
We will transfer the amount to your bank account.
Renewal period
A new reimbursement is possible:
For eyeglass lenses of at least -6 or +6 diopter:
- if there is a difference in strength of at least 0.5 diopter compared to the previous lenses
- or after five years (+18 years old)
For eyeglass lenses for young people under 18 years:
- if there is a difference in strength of at least 0.5 diopter compared to the previous lenses
- or after 2 years
For multifocal eyeglass lenses for people over 65 (with a diopter from -4.25 or +4.25):
- if there is a difference in strength of at least 0.5 diopter compared to the previous lenses
- or after five years
For eyeglass lenses with a medical filter:
- if there is a difference in strength of at least 0.5 diopter compared to the previous lenses
- or after two years (-18 years old)
- or after five years (+18 years old)
- and only with medical approval
- If you are older than 65, you are entitled to reimbursement from a diopter of +/- 4.25.
- If you are between 18 and 65, you are entitled to reimbursement if your diopter:
- is greater than or equal to +6
- or is less than or equal to -6
- Were the eyeglass lenses delivered between 1/8/2023 and 30/4/2024? Then you are entitled to reimbursement from a diopter greater than or equal to +7 or -7.
- Children and young people under 18 years always receive reimbursement for glasses with corrective lenses, taking into account renewal periods.
- A reimbursement is only possible if the prescription was not older than 6 months at the time of delivery of your glasses.
Up to 15% off at authorised opticians and up to 30% off at Pearle
Helan Health Insurance Fund works together with many opticians. At their shops you may receive up to 15% discount, and at Pearle the discount can go up to 30% on the purchase of glasses, excluding certain frames. Always check this with your optician.

Show your adhesive stamp to the optician.
Give your optician an adhesive stamp as proof of your affiliation with Helan Health Insurance Fund.
The discount will be applied immediately by the optician.
- This discount cannot be combined with temporary promotions or discounts offered by the optician.
- Shopping at Pearle? You can expect:
- 30% discount on a complete pair of glasses from Pearle’s own brand collection: DbyD, Seen, Unofficial
- 20% discount on a complete pair of glasses from the rest of the collection
- 10% discount on contact lenses
- This discount can only be applied at the time of purchase
- The discount does not apply to non-prescription glasses.
- Some opticians apply specific conditions and, for example, do not offer discounts on contact lenses. Always ask about the conditions before purchasing.
Up to €50 refunded for those aged 18 and under
Do you not qualify for statutory reimbursement for your eyeglass lenses, contact lenses, or frames? Then Helan Health Insurance Fund provides an optics benefit offering an annual contribution for children and young people up to 18 years of up to €50 for the purchase of (sunglass) lenses, frames, eye patches, or contact lenses. You can choose what you apply this benefit to.

Are you not buying your glasses from an optician? Then we need the receipt or invoice of your purchase and a one-time prescription from the ophthalmologist.
Send the completed form to Helan.

- You are in order with your health insurance contributions.
- The reimbursement is limited to the amount paid.
- You choose yourself what you apply this benefit to: the purchase of (sunglass) lenses, frames, eye patches or contact lenses.
- This benefit does not apply to (sunglasses) without diopter correction.
- Only if there is no reimbursement via the statutory health insurance.
- The reimbursement applies to (sunglasses) purchased in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.
- The reimbursement applies per calendar year and is based on the invoice date of your purchase.
Up to €60 reimbursed from the age of 19
Do you not qualify for statutory reimbursement for your eyeglass lenses, contact lenses, or frames? Then Helan Health Insurance Fund provides an optics benefit offering an annual contribution for adults of up to €60 for the purchase of optical products:
- Are you 19 years or older? Then you receive up to €30 per calendar year for (sunglass) lenses, frames, contact lenses, or eye patches.
- Are you between 19 and 65 years old and purchasing corrective (sunglass) lenses with a diopter between 4.5 and 5.75? Then you can receive up to €60 per calendar year. Frames, contact lenses, or eye patches are not eligible for this amount.
You can combine both benefits, but even then you will receive a maximum of €60 in total per calendar year. Example: if you already received €30 for contact lenses (benefit 1), you can still receive up to €30 extra for eyeglass lenses (benefit 2), provided you meet all the conditions mentioned above.
