Reimbursement of geriatric admission costs
Are you admitted to the geriatric department of a hospital? Then your hospitalisation insurance will provide coverage. How much you are reimbursed depends on your Hospitalia plan:
- Do you have Hospitalia Smart?
You receive optimal reimbursement if you stay in a shared room for the first 50 days of the hospital admission. In a private room, you receive reimbursement of medical costs supplements up to a maximum of 1 times the statutory tariff (=100%) and up to 100 euros per admission day for room supplements. - Do you have Hospitalia Care?
You receive reimbursement of medical costs supplements up to 2 times the statutory tariff (200%) and up to 125 euros per admission day for room supplements. - Do you have Hospitalia Plus?
You receive reimbursement of medical costs supplements up to 3 times the statutory tariff (300%) and up to 125 euros per admission day for room supplements.
Please note:
- If your insurance limits reimbursements due to a pre-existing condition and your admission is related to it, your insurance will not reimburse the supplements for a private room.
Reimbursement for pre- and post-admission geriatric care
Your hospitalisation insurance Hospitalia Smart, Hospitalia Care and Hospitalia Plus covers pre- and post-hospital care in case of a hospital admission in a geriatric department:
- Hospitalia Smart: 2 months of pre-care and 4 months of post-care
- Hospitalia Care: 3 months of pre-care and 4 months of post-care
- Hospitalia Plus: 3 months of pre-care and 4 months of post-care
Reimbursement for long-term or short-term care stays
If you are not yet 100% self-sufficient to return home, there is the possibility of temporarily staying in a care stay or a short stay. Reimbursement of your stay depends on your Hospitalia plan:
- Do you have Hospitalia Smart? You receive a lump sum of €7.50 per day for each temporary stay in a recovery hotel or care hotel.
- Do you have Hospitalia Care or Hospitalia Plus? You receive a lump sum of €15 per day for each temporary stay in a recovery hotel or care hotel.
This reimbursement is granted if the stay starts within 14 days after leaving the hospital. It is limited to 15 days per hospital admission and per calendar year.
How do I apply for my reimbursement?
If you are insured with a Helan hospitalisation insurance plan, follow the steps below to request your reimbursement.
Are you insured with another hospitalisation insurance provider? Please contact your broker to find out how the reimbursement process works.
When you receive your invoices, you first pay the amount yourself. You will be reimbursed later.
Download a recent reimbursement form. Fill it in, sign it, and attach the hospital admission invoice and any other supporting documents.
Place a white adhesive stamp on documents that you do not submit digitally so that we can identify them immediately.
- Submit your documents digitally via the My Helan app (mobile) or via My Helan (desktop).
- Or drop them in a Helan mailbox near you.
- Or send them by post to Helan Independent Health Insurance Fund, Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk.
Please note! A certificate of provided care (paper doctor’s note) must not be submitted digitally. We need the original for reimbursement by the statutory health insurance.
