Reimbursement for hospital admission

Were you admitted to the hospital? Once you receive your hospital invoice, you can request reimbursement through your hospitalisation insurance. Or do you have medical expenses for treatment due to a serious illness? We explain how to request your reimbursement.

How do you arrange the reimbursement?

Pay your hospital invoices on time.

When you receive your invoices, you first pay the amount yourself. You will be reimbursed later.

Download a recent reimbursement form. Fill it in, sign it, and add the hospital invoice along with any other supporting documents.

Attach a white adhesive stamp to any documents you are not submitting digitally, so we can immediately recognise them.

  • Submit your documents digitally via the My Helan App or via My Helan Web.
  • Or drop them in a Helan mailbox in your neighbourhood.
  • Or send them by post to Helan Onafhankelijk ziekenfonds, Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk.

Important! You may not submit a doctor’s certificate (certificate of provided care) digitally. We need the original for reimbursement through the compulsory health insurance.

When should you claim which reimbursement?

Paper doctor's note

Send us your paper doctor's notes in advance so that you can claim reimbursement through the statutory health insurance scheme. In the meantime, please write down the treatment provided on the reimbursement form for your hospitalisation insurance and submit it as soon as you have received the hospital bill.

Hospital advance invoice

You can only claim a reimbursement for your advance invoice. Wait to submit your claim for reimbursement of other medical costs until you have received the hospital invoice.

Invoices for pre- and post-treatment care

Send us your invoices in advance so that you can claim reimbursement from the statutory health insurance scheme. In the meantime, write down the treatment you received on the reimbursement form for your hospitalisation insurance and submit it as soon as you have received the hospital invoice.
