Discount for support from a tobacco specialist
Each year you are entitled to 4 hours of individual guidance or 12 hours of group guidance. You can alternate between both forms of support.
You only pay the co-payment, namely 7.5 euros per 15 minutes for individual guidance and a maximum of 1 euro for group guidance.
If you are entitled to the increased reimbursement or are 20 years old or younger, you pay a maximum of 1 euro per 15 minutes of individual guidance and 0.50 euro per 15 minutes of group guidance.

You can find certified tobacco specialists at www.tabakologen.be, and group sessions at www.tabakstop.be.
Bring a recent adhesive stamp with you.
Show a recent adhesive stamp from your health insurance fund to your coach.
You only pay the co-payment to the tobacco specialist.
The Flemish government pays the remaining amount directly to the tobacco specialist.
- You live in Flanders.
- The smoking cessation consultations are provided individually or in a group by a certified tobacco specialist.
Discount on smoking cessation consultations in Brussels and Wallonia
The statutory health insurance provides reimbursement for a maximum of 8 consultations in Brussels and Wallonia. The first consultation lasts 45 minutes, and the second to eighth consultations each last 30 minutes. You receive a reimbursement of 30 euros for the first consultation and 20 euros for each of the following consultations.
Are you pregnant? Then you receive 30 euros reimbursement for each consultation.
Send us the necessary documents.
Send us the doctor’s note from your physician or the invoice from the tobacco specialist:
- By post to Helan Independent Health Insurance Fund, Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk, including a white adhesive stamp. Or drop it in a Helan mailbox near you.
We will transfer the reimbursement to your account.
- The series of 8 consultations must be completed within a period of 2 calendar years.
- The consultations must take place under the supervision of a doctor or a certified tobacco specialist.
- Pregnant women need prior approval from the advising physician, based on a prescription from the gynaecologist stating the expected delivery date.
Reimbursement for the smoking cessation medicines Bupropion (Zyban®) and Varenicline (Champix®)
The statutory health insurance provides partial reimbursement for smoking cessation medications such as Bupropion, also known under the brand name Zyban®, and Varenicline, also known under the brand name Champix®.
Take your doctor's prescription to the pharmacy.
The reimbursement will be deducted from your purchase at the time of payment.
- Only on a medical prescription.
- You need prior medical approval from the advising physician of your health insurance fund. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
- You are older than 35 years.
- You suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
