Outpatient medical care
Do you need care without being admitted to hospital? If so, follow these steps.
Contact the travel assistance centre Mediphone Assist within 48 hours on T. +32 (0) 2 778 94 94: they will advise you on a doctor or pharmacist near your accommodation abroad who speaks a language you understand.
You first pay outpatient costs for medication and doctor visits abroad yourself.
Keep your documents, such as proof of payment and prescriptions. In France, also keep medication labels.
Admission to the hospital
Need to be hospitalised whilst you’re abroad? Here’s what you need to keep in mind.
Inform Mediphone Assist within 48 hours of your hospital admission. Call T. +32 (0) 2 778 94 94. You will receive support in your own language, and Mediphone Assist will arrange medical assistance.
Show your European Health Insurance Card or another travel document. This allows you to benefit from reimbursement of your medical care on the spot.
Download the My Helan app if you are travelling within Europe, so you always have your European Health Insurance Card digitally at hand!
If you do not have your card or travel document with you, Mediphone Assist can help provide the necessary details to the foreign hospital.
In contrast to outpatient costs, you do not have to pay hospital bills abroad yourself. If the hospital does ask you to do so, contact Mediphone Assist.
Good to know
Inform Helan immediately if, upon your return to Belgium, you are unable to resume work. This allows us to process your incapacity for work in time and ensures you are entitled to an allowance.
