Psychotherapy

Everyone is entitled to affordable psychological support. That is why Helan provides a reimbursement, even when statutory health insurance does not cover the costs.

Up to € 120

Statutory reimbursement

The statutory health insurance provides full or partial reimbursement for first-line psychological care from a contracted psychologist or educational psychologist. This applies to both individual support and group sessions.

The clinical psychologist or clinical educational psychologist must be affiliated with a network for mental health care that has signed an agreement with RIZIV. You do not need a referral from a doctor.

For children and young people up to and including 23 years old, the sessions are free of charge.

As an adult, you pay 11 euros – or 4 euros if you are entitled to increased reimbursement, with the exception of the first individual session, which is always free. For a group intervention, you pay 2.50 euros per session. You can find the number of sessions you are entitled to below in the frequently asked questions.

Your healthcare provider arranges the reimbursement directly with your health insurance fund via the third-party payment scheme. You only pay the co-payment.

  • Individual sessions are provided by a clinical psychologist or clinical educational psychologist who is affiliated with a network that has signed an agreement with RIZIV. For group sessions, the psychologist or educational psychologist may collaborate with other care or support providers connected to the network.
  • No referral or prescription is required to start first-line psychological care. To start specialised psychological care, the psychologist or educational psychologist draws up a functional assessment during the first session.
  • Only one psychological session or group intervention per day per eligible person is eligible for reimbursement, with the exception of a session involving parents, guardians, or family members.
  • If you are not eligible for reimbursement through statutory health insurance, Helan Health Insurance provides a contribution of 10 euros per session for a maximum of 12 sessions per year.

See the frequently asked questions for more information.

Helan-benefit: €10 reimbursed per session.

If you do not meet the conditions for reimbursement from statutory health insurance, you can count on a reimbursement of 10 euros per session for a maximum of 12 sessions per year with a psychologist, educational psychologist, psychotherapist, or sexologist. This applies to both children and young people as well as adults.

Download the psychotherapy form and have it completed by the psychologist or psychotherapist. Alternatively, you can use the invoice from the healthcare provider.

Submit your completed reimbursement form or invoice to us:

  • Digitally: via the My Helan app (mobile) or via My Helan (desktop). No adhesive label is needed, as we identify your document through your login.
  • By post to Helan Independent Health Insurance, Boomsesteenweg 5 in 2610 Wilrijk, including a white adhesive label. Or drop it in a Helan mailbox near you.

  • The sessions must be carried out by a certified psychologist or educational psychologist, a psychotherapist affiliated with a professional association, or a sexologist who is a member of the VVS professional association.
  • Reimbursement only applies to sessions provided by an organisation in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.
  • Also applicable to teleconsultations.
  • Only for sessions for which statutory health insurance does not provide reimbursement.
  • No reimbursement for tests and (preliminary) examinations.

BloomUp

With the online platform BloomUp, mental healthcare becomes more accessible. It quickly and easily connects you with a certified psychologist.

Within two days, you can have a free introductory consultation (15 minutes). After that, you schedule follow-up sessions together. For each consultation, you automatically receive a 10 euro reimbursement through the Helan psychotherapy benefit (maximum 12 sessions per year).

Please note: until the end of 2024, we worked with the Helan Listening Line for psychological support. This benefit has been discontinued as of 2025.

Go to the BloomUp website and answer a few short questions.

We suggest three certified psychologists who match your needs. You choose the one you would like to get to know.

Get to know each other during a free 15-minute introductory consultation. Your psychologist explains how they work, and you share what you would like to talk about.

The reimbursement of your Helan benefit is processed automatically. You do not need to submit a separate request afterwards.
