Vaccines
From the youngest to the oldest. Your whole family stays protected with vaccines. Not every vaccine is covered by statutory health insurance. That's why we offer a reimbursement for every approved vaccine.
Get up to 25 euros reimbursed
Are you purchasing a vaccine that is not reimbursed by the statutory health insurance? You can then count on a maximum reimbursement of 25 euros per year.
In Belgium, you can receive vaccinations for various reasons. In most cases, these vaccines are reimbursed by the statutory health insurance. However, in some cases this is not the case.

Frequently asked questions
The reimbursement you receive from us cannot exceed the amount you actually paid. Did your vaccine cost 8 euros? In that case, if all the conditions are met, we will reimburse you a maximum of 8 euros.
The reimbursement applies only to the purchase of the vaccine. We do not reimburse the co-payment for your doctor's appointment.
Only vaccines that are not reimbursed by the statutory health insurance are eligible for this benefit. Examples include travel vaccines, the pneumococcal vaccine, the vaccine against human papillomavirus, or the flu vaccine if you do not belong to a risk group.
How can you check this?
When you purchase the vaccine at the pharmacy, you receive a special receipt. This is called the BVAC certificate. It shows different amounts: the name of the vaccine, how much you still have to pay yourself (paid price), and how much the health insurance fund has reimbursed (the difference between the public price and the paid price).
If you see on the BVAC certificate that the health insurance fund did not contribute to the purchase of your vaccine, then your purchase is eligible for this additional benefit.
For certain risk groups, the statutory health insurance reimburses most of the vaccine. For people staying in a subsidised care institution in Flanders, the vaccine is free.
Thanks to the statutory reimbursement, a flu vaccine still costs around 4 euros. People who benefit from the increased reimbursement pay only about 2.5 euros.
The following groups are eligible for partial reimbursement:
- people aged 65 or older;
- people with one of the following chronic conditions: heart, lung, or kidney diseases, diabetes, or reduced immunity due to other illnesses or medical treatment;
- care staff who are in direct contact with people at increased risk of complications;
- pregnant women;
- children between 6 months and 18 years undergoing long-term acetylsalicylic acid therapy;
- anyone living under the same roof as risk groups or with children under 6 months;
- persons living in institutions;
- professional poultry and/or pig farmers and their household members, and people who come into professional contact with live birds and pigs;
If you qualify for the partial reimbursement described above, you can no longer use the 'vaccines' benefit to cover the remaining amount.
