Medical approval for incontinence allowance

The compulsory health insurance provides a fixed allowance for incontinence in dependent persons, provided you meet a few conditions.

You have a recognition for nursing care:

• You have, for at least 4 months within a 12‑month period prior to the decision to grant the allowance, received approval from the advising physician for a nursing treatment that may give rise to the payment of forfait B or C. In the dependency scale, a score of 3 or 4 is recorded for the criterion ‘incontinence’.
• You live at home.

If you meet these conditions, the health insurance fund will automatically grant you the incontinence allowance. You do not need to take any action yourself.

You do not have a recognition:

If you still believe you are entitled to the incontinence allowance, you can submit an application.

The allowance is indexed annually. The RIZIV always lists the current rates.

If you are not a dependent person but you do suffer from incontinence, you can also apply for a fixed allowance.

You must meet a number of conditions:

• You have an untreatable form of urinary incontinence.
• You have not received an incontinence allowance in the previous 12 months.
• You live at home.
• You have not received reimbursement for self‑catheterisation or incontinence materials under Article 27 of the nomenclature.
