Medical approval medical nutrition for chronic kidney disease
Children with chronic kidney disease receive special nutritional products. The compulsory health insurance reimburses 30 euros per month for these products, provided that the advising physician grants medical approval.
Conditions
- The child is under 18 years of age.
- The child suffers from chronic kidney insufficiency under dialysis or from tubulopathy.
- A paediatric specialist has diagnosed the chronic kidney insufficiency in a recognised centre for paediatric nephrology.
Track the status of your medical approval in My Helan.
How does the application work?
Your treating medical specialist prepares the written request for reimbursement.
You submit the original application to the advising physician of the health insurance fund:
- Via the Helan office in your neighbourhood.
- Or drop it in a Helan mailbox in your neighbourhood.
- Or send it by post: Helan ziekenfonds, Medische dienst – Boomsesteenweg 5, 2610 Wilrijk.
We process your application (administrative check) and forward it to the advising physician (medical check). This may take up to 3 weeks. Through the My Helan app (mobile) or via My Helan (desktop), you can view the current status of your medical approval at any time.
The advising physician of the health insurance fund reviews your application. If he or she approves the reimbursement, you will receive an ‘authorisation’. If your application is refused, we will also inform you of this.
Extension of the medical approval
If the treatment needs to be continued after 5 years, your medical specialist must submit a new application.
The reimbursement
The allowance of 30 euros is paid out every three months.
