When do you need hospitalisation insurance?

What if someone in your family, whether scheduled or unexpectedly, ends up in hospital? Has your child broken an arm, does your partner need surgery, or are you expecting a baby soon? At such times, it is nice to know that you are well protected against expenses that could arise at any time. Read here about the situations in which you can rely on your Helan hospitalisation insurance.

Hospitalisation in Belgium

There are many situations for which you will be admitted to hospital. Whether it's a long-term hospitalisation or a a day admission ; in many cases you can rely on receiving reimbursement from your hospitalisation insurance.

At Helan Health Insurance Fund, we offer three different Hospitalia policies, each with its own cover and terms and conditions. Find out here in detail what each policy reimburses. 

Hospitalisation abroad

You can also depend on your hospitalisation insurance when you’re in a foreign country. However, keep in mind that different rules apply abroad

The cover of your hospitalisation insurance varies depending on the policy plan:

  • Hospitalia: max. Up to €200 per day to cover actual costs, after other statutory allowances. Day admission as well as pre-admission care and aftercare are not covered abroad.
     
  • Hospitalia Medium and Plus: max. Up to €360 per day to cover actual costs, after other statutory allowances. Day admissions and planned admissions are not covered abroad.

Pregnancy and childbirth

If you are pregnant, you can choose to give birth at home or in hospital. In either situation, you can count on your hospitalisation insurance. Thinking of expanding your family? Then consider in advance which hospitalisation insurance is best for you.

Please note: If you want to purchase hospitalisation insurance at a time when you are already pregnant, the waiting period is nine months. So, it is best to purchase hospitalisation insurance before you start expanding your family.

Hospitalia Assist

With hospital stays are getting shorter and shorter, you will appreciate the extra service included with Hospitalia Medium and Hospitalia Plus. Both policies feature Hospitalia Assist – a package of services with your choice of extra help in the event that you are admitted to hospital.

Hospitalia Assist reimbursements up to €1000 per admission or serious illness, for up to two admissions and/or serious illnesses per year. Hospitalia Assist provides household help, transport and other services such as psychological support. 

Day admission

Need to go to hospital for a day admission? Even in the case of a day admission you can depend on your hospitalisation insurance. 

How much you will be reimbursed depends on the Hospitalia policy you chose, and on the type of room you choose. Be sure to inform yourself in advance so that you don't face unexpected costs, or contact us so we can look into it together.
